Yaama (hello)

My name is Jessi Rebel and I am a proud Wiradjuri person, living and creating on Wadawurrung Country. I am a queer, non-binary, blak fella with a strong love of Country and Sea Country. Most of my life has been shaped by my connection to Country and Sea Country, growing up in the bush by the ocean, and having a father who loved surfing and passed that passion on to my younger sister and I.

My artistic journey began at a young age, through my mother encouraging creativity and watching my Aunty Lisa paint up since I was young. Apart from art, I have studied and worked in the youth and mental health industry, and I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Therapy.

My art holds a strong focus on the relationship I have with Country and Sea Country, and the relationship I have with myself. For me right now, I am researching ways I can make art in response to the environments I am in through sustainable practices, shifting away from using purchased materials and developing ideas and practices to create my own mediums and grow a deeper relationship to a slow-paced creative journey.

I love playfulness, mess, experimenting and collecting materials to use in my creations.

I engage in commissions, murals and workshops also. If you want to know more about the collaborative work I offer, send me an email via my CONTACT page to connect
